An industrial zone in a small town on the river Drina. The river that separates Bosnia and Serbia and flows with a bloody history. One morning, group of workers is fired from the explosives factory. While some of them prepare to strike, unconvinced and depressed protagonist VELID (29) wanders around the small town. Velid gets intercepted by two young filmmakers, a local and a Westerner, who are shooting a film about Bosnia and Herzegovina. The directors are fascinated by Velid’s face and and Velid agrees to an interview. As the shooting develops, the situation grows more humiliating for Velid. He seeks the answer from the river Drina.
“Spectral Symbiosis” is an experimental animation that combines the techniques of time-lapse photography and long-exposure light painting to explore the coexistence of two very different worlds. Crafted through spontaneous compositions captured in various locations across Reykjavik, Iceland, “Spectral Symbiosis” focuses on portrayal of contrasting tempos at which these two worlds operate. A normal trip home for two friends, Emmy and Lisa, turns into a nightmare when girls decided to take a shortcut through the forest. Ignoring radio warnings of danger in the area, they continue on their way. When suddenly their car breaks down and the girls are left in the forest, cut off from civilization. With hope fading and accusations flying in both ways, Lisa agrees to go searching for help. Meanwhile, Emmy stays near the car and her waiting turns into a frightening nightmare as reality and fear comes in waves. Trapped between the fading light and the approaching darkness, the friends must confront the horror of the forest before becoming its next victims. In this unequal struggle for survival, they are left alone, and the chances tend to zero.
